Mask of Loci
Sculpture for a group exhibition of paper masks.
This paper mask appeared in Papershrine, an exhibition curated by Paperform’s Benja Harney, featuring over 40 Australian and international artists. The exhibition showed in July and August at Jacky Winter’s Lamington Drive gallery in Collingwood, Melbourne, then again in November and December at China Heights in Surry Hills, Sydney.
The Method of Loci is a mental process for remembering things. Memories are visualised as objects then placed within an imagined location, which often takes the form of a palace, room or landscape. The Mask of Loci is an avatar — the navigator of one of these imagined landscapes.
